Sports Hall Athletics Competition

On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th November, year 5 & 6 pupils from 7 primary schools in East Grinstead took part in the annual sports hall athletics competition at Sackville School as part of the Sainsbury’s School Games Programme run by Steve Hill and Suzanne Currie in conjunction with Mid Sussex Active.

The competition comprises of track and field events and is brilliantly delivered by Sackville Sports Leaders.  The track element includes various relay and obstacle races, and over and under relays, which require the children to run both lengths of the sports hall and turn quickly, using the rebound boards up against the walls. The field events range from;  speed bounce, seated chest throw, standing long jump and triple jump, soft javelin and vertical jump.

The children can compete in a maximum of 2 track and 2 field events.

3 schools, St Peters, Blackwell and Ashurst Wood competed first and set a very high standard for the following days’ competition.

St Mary’s Estcots, Crawley Down and The Meads continued the excellent efforts on the Wednesday.  The competition was a great success and St Peter’s and St Mary’s won through to the next round of the competition to be held at Oathall Community College in early December.

Thank you to those schools that took part, the teachers and coaches that helped support them and the many parents that helped provide transport.

We wish St Peter’s and St Mary’s the best of luck in the next round!
